Department of Thermal Engineering

The Department of Thermal Engineering provides bachelor, engineering and PhD studies. The education is aimed at the issues of gaining, utilizing and energy consumption, primarily the heat energy. The current world trends in energy management are fully recognised and respected, as well as the possibilities to exploit new unconventional energy sources, modification of technologies with a focus on energy savings, preventing and limitating environment impacts, both in industrial and municipal areas.

Katedra tepelné techniky

Research activities concern modern technologies in energy, optimizing various heating and cooling processes, determination of physico-thermal parameters, and modification of combustion processes to meet environmental requirements.

The Institute of Industrial Ceramics is a part of the Department of Thermal Engineering. The institute is one of the few centers in the Czech Republic, which provides study in the field of production and use of the wide range of ceramic materials. The research work of the Institute of Industrial Ceramics is focused on: i) the development of new environmentally friendly procedures for metallurgical wastes treatment and procedures for f secondary materials recycling, ii) the effect of phase composition and microstructure on the functional properties of geopolymer materials prepared from technogenic pozzolans, iii) the corrosion of refractory materials and iv) the designs of lining for metallurgical and other aggregates.
